Governor Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State on Saturday received over 20 PDP groups who defected to the All ProgressiveS Congress ( APC) in Sokoto North and North local government areas of the state.
He told the defectors and other supporters of the party to ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) so as to ensure the success of the party’s candidates in next month’s general elections.
Wamakko said that acquiring the PVCs would ensure the victory of the party in the forthcoming elections.
He called for political tolerance and understanding amongst the people of the state to ensure peaceful conduct of the electoral processes.
The governor also called on leaders of political parties to embark on aggressive political sensitisation to educate the people on the need to ensure political tolerance and understanding.
He explained that violence and thunggery would be a thing of the past if leaders of various political parties educate their followers on dangers involved in violence.
Wamakko also called on the party’s supporters not to sell their PVC, adding that it was the tool needed to be used to ensure the desired political change in the country.
In his remarks, the Spokesman of the defectors, Alhaji Aminu Mainasara, described the APC as the party that would meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
He said that over 20 PDP groups with their supporters had defected to the APC to ensure its victory in the February elections.
Mainasara promised to mobilise the people of the state for the victory of the APC and urged those who had yet to collect their permanent voter cards to do so for the overall success of the party in next month’s elections.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reviewed its presidential campaigns so far and submitted that with the overwhelming support from Nigerians across the six geo-political zones, it is sure that President Goodluck Jonathan will win convincingly by over 64 percent.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, who stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Abuja on Friday also said that President Jonathan was well received in the north, noting that the isolated cases of attacks on his convoy by a handful of sponsored miscreants in some northern states does not in anyway reflect the true feelings of the region regarding the President.
“Our campaigns have been very successful and the President has been wonderfully received by Nigerians in all parts of the country. We have ran a superior campaign with our record of performance and Nigerians are convinced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari are no alternatives to the PDP and President Jonathan. If elections hold today, it is certain that President Jonathan will record a sweeping victory across board. In fact, we will win with over 64 percent”, Metuh said.
The PDP spokesman said the campaigns have thrown up very salient issues including exposing the emptiness of the APC and its flagbearer, their lack of policy direction, lack of capacity and right temperament to handle the complexity of leadership at the highest level.
He said the APC has shown that it has nothing to offer Nigerians apart from propaganda, insults, promoting of violence, wild allegations and impracticable promises adding also that Nigeria are not comfortable with the caliber of their candidates and leaders who have proven to be “desperate and selfish.”
Stating that the APC has continued to expose its insincerity, Mr. Metuh dismissed promises by APC leaders that they will solve Nigeria’s problems a year and end insurgency in four months. He recalled Mr. Buhari’s statement in a recent interview he granted The Cable News, an online news platform, in which he admitted that “for any body to come and create an impression that he can work wonders is a lie”.
Mr. Metuh also quoted Mr. Buhari in the same interview as saying that “Nigerians have to be prepared to suffer for at least five more straight years before we can stabilize this country” arguing that such is an admission that the APC presidential candidate has no clear-cut blue print for governance. He said Buhari’s body language and utterances have continued to betray his inner acceptance of incompetence and lack of capacity to move Nigeria to the next level.
Also reacting to the unsavoury utterances of some support groups and individuals canvassing for votes for the President, Mr. Metuh said although the party was not responsible for the utterances, it has already taken precautionary measures to check such in the overall interest of the nation. He said President Jonathan enjoys the support of a majority of Nigerians and not only from the South South.
“President Jonathan can even be more loved in Sokoto than in Bayelsa his home state, President Jonathan can even be more loved in the South-West than the South-South. Mr. President is not an Ijaw President but the President of the entire nation,” Mr. Metuh said.
He therefore urged all supporters of the PDP and the President to be guided by the lofty founding ideals of the PDP for which it enjoys the support of Nigerians.
In a bid to be sure of what becomes the fate of his party and President Goodluck Jonathan as the nation looks forward to the general elections, Dr. Leonard Olalekan Shogunle, decided to embark on spiritual journey to Pakistan, Indian and China to consult the oracle.
Having had words with the oracle in the foreign land, Shogunle, a retired Captain in the Nigerian Army and a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos shared his experience with Saturday Independent in an exclusive interview, saying that the oracle pronounced victory for President Goodluck Jonathan in 28 of the 36 states in the country.
Asked what informed his decision to embark on the journey, when there are countless oracles in the country, he said: “Don’t assume I was kidding with my submission. I am a real Lagosian born in the Mainland during the Lagos Colony. I am 69 years old. My great grandfathers, though, migrated from Abeokuta in Ogun State to settle in Lagos, we own Abule Onigbagbo in Maryland.
“I am from Lagos Mainland so I am a real Lagosian. If I asked a spiritualist to do that for me in the country, some people would have doubts and rubbish the fellow.
“This year’s general election is no joke. Nigerians must be guided in the right direction.
“Last month, I went to Pakistan, Indian and up to the extreme end of China in Yung where I consulted celestial board of oracles from the orbit. I wanted revelation concerning the political situation in Nigeria. I was told nothing would stop the victory of Jonathan in 28 states including Lagos State.
“I was told that although there would be some uproar in some states after Jonathan is announced as winner, that would eventually die down with time. The oracle said General Mohammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC) was no match for him.
“As a person, I believe in the prophecy because even in the Bible, oracle was consulted when Jonah was swallowed by a shark. I was told that apart from winning the 28 states, the President would record over 70 per cent of the total votes cast in 11 other states.
He said : “Yes, the chief priests in those countries spoke to me. They were not black people like us. Their languages were interpreted to me. There were signs they gave me that the victory of Jonathan was certain. I did the same thing before the 1999 election and the oracle predicted that somebody from the prison would win the presidential election and I gave my support to former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“The oracle further revealed that there would be progress in Nigeria after President Jonathan wins second term. However, a note of warning was sounded to the Boko Haram in their own interest. The sect was warned to desist from what can cause bloodletting in the nation, as a result of retaliation from Niger Delta militants.
“The Boko Haram should know that they are poor people and no match for the militants. The militants are rich guys who can afford to buy ammunition to fight anywhere in the world but the Boko Haram boys can’t afford that. Therefore, they should embrace peace. Their godfathers were some former Northern governors that were giving them N10 million monthly.
“Buhari is going to fail. The former military head of state cannot win because he is totalitarian and not a democrat. When I was in the military, I was the one who wrote a document on War Against Indiscipline (WAI) as my handout and I gave it to him. That was why he implemented WAI. I am a retired Captain in the Nigerian army. I left the service in 1978.
“APC’s slogan is change while Jonathan’s own is development. Change can be anything. It can be death, madness, sickness or otherwise. Buhari did nothing for the nation except that he jailed our past leaders. You can see that immediately Jonathan won the last presidential election, some Northern leaders said they were going to make the nation ungovernable for him.
“That is what we are battling till date. Power belongs to God and He gives it to whoever he wants. You can never take it by force. I was amazed at the level of insult the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other APC leaders were passing at the President. If Jonathan was not mature and peaceful, all the attacks on him in the Northern states would have turned to something else.
“ Sometime ago, the Boko Haram overran 12 local governments in one of the Northern states within 12 hours. How could that be? I was a soldier man; I knew how we used to advance for operation, without the connivance of the people, the state and local government in that state, such can never be successful. So there are may enemies within nation, as regards the insurgency,” Shogunle said.
