General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has described Boko Haram as “a fraud” which could be nipped in the bud with commitment and sincerity of purpose on the part of those saddled with the task of ensuring the security of the nation.
Recall that Boko Haram at a point nominated Buhari as their official negotiator, an offer Buhari rejected. He, however, told Liberty Radio in Kaduna that Boko Haram militants should be granted amnesty like was done to Niger Delta militants.
He stated this at a town hall meeting in Kano yesterday.
According to him, Boko Haram is a phantom menace fabricated to serve the parochial interest of a cabal.
He said: “It is a menace that could be confronted with seriousness; we should stop playing the ostrich and do what is right. The world is watching us and as one calling the shots on the African continent, Nigeria should be seen to be up and doing on how to make the nation secure.”
On the forthcoming general elections, the APC presidential candidate maintained that the only way out of the current mess was for voters to come out and collect the voter registration cards, stressing, “It is only by making such an effort that the Augean stable would be cleaned.”
He said the current political crisis would not be resolved by resorting to violent acts, adding that he was known to be averse to acts of terrorism in achieving the nation’s political goals.
“I am a victim of a well-calculated plot at the time; I was fingered for spearheading the violence that preceded the 2011 presidential elections; at the end of it all I was found to have no hand in it.
“It was even discovered that I lost some of my belongings to the crises. So, one could clearly read between the lines and see the irony of such an accusation.”
He called on the electorate to make credible choices in voting the right persons to steer the ship of the state.
Buhari warned: “Planting monsters in the corridors of power would only spell doom for the nation.”
