The presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, on Sunday, said that he would not shy away from media debates, saying that he would make himself available like he had done in previous elections.
He also added that he would not shy away from explaining his policy plan on how to rebuild Nigeria from the abyss of insecurity, comatose economy, decaying infrastructure, massive unemployment and poor public health situation.
A statement issued by the director of media and publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, maintained that the APC presidential candidate “is ever ready to address any issue put before him.”
To this end, he dismissed the insinuations from spokesman of the PDP campaign organisation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, as the ranting of a man “with deficit communication acumen and mastery of simple logic.”
Fani-Kayode had said the planned boycott by the APC, which the party said was premised on principle, “amounts to shielding Buhari from intellectual discussion.”
According to the party, “the interpretation by the spokesman of the PDP campaign is a huge lie. Nigerians know Buhari as a man of high integrity and one that would not shy away from public scrutiny.”
Shehu, in another statement, also said Buhari would not subject the military or any other arm of government to probe if elected on February 14.
The presidential candidate, however, vowed that under his government, there would be accountability.
To this end, he said his government would be committed to bringing to book and punishing corruption at all levels under his administration.
A statement from the APCPCO maintained that the report which quoted Buhari as vowing to probe the military if elected into office was misleading.
Shehu said what General Buhari said was that his government would not pursue a witchhunt of anybody or institutions, but would decisively deal with cases of impunity and corruption under his administration, no matter who is involved.
