APC-PDP

The Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday engaged in al war of words over distribution of the religious leaflets in places of worship.

All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Nigerians about circulation of religious leaflets by desperate politicians in mosques and churches, asking adherents to both faiths to vote along religious lines in the forthcoming elections.
In a swift reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday described the alert by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as an unintended leak from the APC’s massive arsenal of religious bigotry and viscous divisive politics.

APC, in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the plot was in line with the track record of those he claimed have consistently used religion to divide Nigerians in order to feather their political nest.
According to APC, “they are hoping that by further inflaming passion with the highly emotive issue of religion, they can revive their shrivelling political fortunes. That is why they have devised the latest strategy of pitching Christians against Muslims through the circulation of satanic leaflets. Nigerians should not be taken in by this cheap plot.
“The party reminded Nigerians of the most recent attempt to use religion as a tool to win votes, when Vice President Namadi Sambo said the PDP has more Muslims than the APC, and that the APC’s vice presidential candidate is a pastor who has 5,000 members church.

“We ask Nigerians to disregard anyone peddling religion as a tool for securing votes in any part of the country. Faith is a personal thing to individuals and no responsible government will seek to use religion to divide the people,’’ APC said.
But in a statement issued by the national publicity secretary of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, yesterday, PDP said it is the APC presidential candidate that stands to benefit from such unpatriotic conduct and who together with his party, has consistently been aligned to such insensibilities is scared of the possible backlash and desperately looking for a scapegoat.

“Here is the APC running with the hares by pretending an ally of the people while ravenously hunting with the hounds by harvesting from the fissures on our fault lines, all in an attempt to sell the unmarketable in its presidential candidate.
