A plane has crashed near the international airport in South Sudan, killing at least 41 people, an official and a witness said.
Shortly after taking off from Juba airport on Wednesday, the plane came down on the banks of the White Nile river, leaving a tail fin and lumps of fuselage strewn in vegetation close to the water.
A crew member and a child on board survived the crash, presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny told Reuters.
He said the plane may have had about 20 people on board, including the crew and 10 to 15 passengers.
An unknown number of people were killed on the ground, the presidential spokesman added.
A police officer said at least 41 people died, Reuters reports.
