For speaking Arabic, two men were prevented from boarding a flight from Chicago to Philadelphia this week. This incident was just one of several incidents which followed the Paris attacks.
A gate agent at Midway Airport told Maher Khalil and Anas Ayyad that they wouldn’t be allowed on the plane because a fellow passenger had overheard them speaking Arabic and was afraid to fly with them. The duo, of Palestinian origin and in their late 20s, were however, allowed on the Southwest flight Wednesday night, but only after they were questioned by airport security and police. Khalil told NBC 5 that some passengers made him open a white box he was carrying while on board, which turned out with sweets.
