A rather shameful video which throws the Nigerian Police in bad light was released on the Internet yesterday by SaharaReporters.
The 3:56 minute video shows a drunken police officer with the Mobile Police, or Mopol, Unit #20, in Lagos; later identified as Tafa Mohammed, assaulting two helpless women with a gun.
A bystander captured this disturbing footage at a safe distance with his cell phone camera. Mohammed could be seen in the video, brutalizing two women with a hidden camera.
According to eyewitnesses, the problem started when a street food vendor refused to sell him fish to finish up his beer. The food vendor had told him that she doesn’t sell fish alone, except to those buying food with it, a vendor policy that angered the policeman.
Mohammed, whom eyewitnesses said was reeking of alcohol then took on a female customer who was buying food from the same vendor at the time he got there, and threw her into a nasty pond of putrid muddy water. He then went on to assault the food vendor.
This assault on the two women took place at Lewis Street, Lafiaji, Obalende on the Lagos Island. Mohammed can be seen drawing a rifle and pointing it at one of the women, an act of ‘pistol whipping,’ and he was backed-up with the presence of a second MOPOL officer. One round of ammunition was fired.
The torture reportedly caused internal injuries for the victim. A crowd of bystanders, and pedestrians could also be heard shouting their displeasure at both officers.
I’m very much interested to know the outcome of this and what the authorities will do to Tafa Mohammed.
