Ado Daukaka, a popular musician in Adamawa state, has gone missing hours after he released his new album, which condemned corrupt practices.
He was last seen on Saturday, June 25, after he set out for early morning prayers.
According to his wives, he went missing after some unknown persons visited his home in the wee hours of Saturday, Premium Times reports.
Family members, neighbours and fans are already linking his disappearance with his latest song titled, “Gyara kayanka” where he alleged that some elected politicians of the ruling All Progressives Congress were deceiving the electorate.
One of his relatives, Atiku Mustapha, said: “It is not surprising that he could be abducted because of his song because in his new song in which he compared the present and past elected members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
“The way and manner things are happening will not augur well for the state. They just want to intimidate those that are criticising the charade playing out in the state.”
Hussaini Bello, the leader of the Adamawa Concern Citizens, a pressure group in the state condemned the abduction, saying the matter was under investigation.
“In our society singers use their God-given talents to capture the mood of the society, the songs sometimes don’t go down well with those in power except if the singer praises them,” he said.
Bello added that whoever has hand in it must be exposed.
Daukaka came to limelight during the reign of Murtala Nyako, a former governor of the state, with his popular praise song for the former governor, “Baba mai mangoro ndottijon arziki”.
