<span style="background-color: white;">The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to cancel presidential and National Assembly elections in seven states of the federation.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white;">According to the party, the election results in the states have to be cancelled in the seven States because of what it called alleged electoral malpractices.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: white;">Secondus alleged that in the seven states, under-age people were allowed to vote in clear contravention of the Electoral Act, adding that voting also took place late in the night in the affected states.</span></div>

Dame Patience Jonathan has reportedly been rushed to a hospital in Otueke and is in critical condition after she slumped while watching the live collation of votes on TV.</div>

Dame Patience, according to eye witness accounts, is said to have been agitated ever since the election collation began on TV, but slumped at fainted just as the results for Benue state were called.</div>

Our eye witness tells us that, on hearing that her husband lost Benue, she screamed “David Mark ooooooo heiiii” and fainted.</div>

 Niger Delta Affairs Minister Elder Godsday Orubebe last night 
apologised for his outburst during the release of elections results in 
Abuja. He regretted that he allowed his emotion to betray him and has 
pleaded with Niger Delta youths not to perpetrate violence because of 
the election of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.<br /><br />Orubebe, who held up proceedings for about 30 minutes, told reporters in Abuja:<br /><b>”Election
 is a passionate thing and I really regret what took place this morning.
 I was unnecessarily pushed by Jega to get to that level. I want to 
apologise particularly to young Nigerians that look up to take politics 
as a career to say that what happened was not intended to cause them any
 embarrassment. <br />To Nigerians generally, I regret my actions as even 
an elder in the church, and a leader, the young men expected to see a 
lot from me and I believe that if there was any disappointment they got 
from me I apologise to Nigerians and to the youths of this country.”</b><br />TheNation
 adds that a sober Orubebe asked Niger Delta youths not to take the laws
 into their hands on the outcome of the Presidential Election.<br /><b>“We
 have always talked about peace in this country and remember that when 
there was crisis in the Niger Delta, I was one of the architects that 
sacrificed to got the creeks to tell the militants that we need peace in
 this country alongside President Goodluck Jonathan.”</b><br />On President Goodluck Jonathan’s sportsmanship attitude, he said:<br /><b>“Two
 things are in place. The president is the president of everybody. As a 
statesman and as a president; he has done what he should do.”</b><br />On how the PDP will take the defeat, Orubebe said:<br /><b>“I
 cannot decide for the PDP. It  is a large family. We were sent on an 
errand to come back to report. We will go and report to the party and 
the party will take the necessary action it has to take. <br />You 
remember what happened in Ekiti’s  governorship election when the 
governor congratulated his opponent and the party went back and said 
this is what they have seen. The candidate is not the party, he is a 
candidate and he has acted very well as a statesman, and as the 
president, the father of all. For us, we are agents to be here to see 
what transpired here and give report to them.”</b></div>

President Muhammadu Buhari To Address Nigerians At 11am Today

 officials announced the decision to cancel the address at about 12.54am
 after a long wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission to 
officially announce the winner of the election.<br /><br />The supporters 
who had besieged the party secretariat to catch a glimpse of General 
Buhari left the party secretariat disappointed, but With great 
enthusiasm for better things to come.<br /><br />All streets leading to the 
National Secretariat of the party were taken over by youths and other 
Nigerians celebrating the victory of Buhari as early as 5.00pm, while 
security was beefed up around the place with men of Department of State 
Security and the Police on ground.<br /><br />The youths holding brooms 
danced around the secretariat, singing and drumming while others dance 
around the street. The story was the sad around the Federal Capital 
Territory.<br /><br />Party leaders, governors and members of the National 
Assembly led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu 
Waziri Tambuwal were also at the National Secretariat. </div>

 elections have been marred by serious irregularities and suspicions of 
rigging. In 2007 observers said the presidential poll was not 
"credible". In 2011 the vote was considered to be better run but 
observers said that rigging and fraud still took place.<br />This time the electoral commission took more steps to prevent rigging, including new biometric voters cards.<br />Also
 President Jonathan's party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), had 
lost control of some key states which meant it could not control the 
electoral process there.<br /><br /><b>2: Boko Haram and security</b><br />The Nigerian army has made some recent gains against Boko Haram, but not enough to convince Nigerians<br />The
 election took place against the background of an Islamist insurgency in
 the north-east of the country. The Boko Haram militant group has killed
 20,000 people and forced some three million others from their homes and
 President Jonathan was criticised for not getting to grips with this.<br />The
 poll was delayed for six weeks to give time for the security situation 
to improve, but even though most areas controlled by Boko Haram were 
recaptured, it seems to have come too late for many people.<br /><br /><b>3: United opposition, crumbling PDP</b><br />The extra six weeks of vigorous campaigning by the PDP was not enough to halt the slide in the party's fortunes<br />The
 PDP has been described as an election-winning machine. When it was 
created it united a northern elite with leading politicians from the 
south, but that alliance has broken up and the party lost some key 
figures. Even former President Olusegun Obasanjo came out against Mr 
Jonathan.<br />At the same time, the opposition managed to unite under the
 All Progressives Congress (APC) banner. The last six weeks of desperate
 and dirty campaigning, in which the APC responded in kind, was not 
enough to turn the tide.<br /><br /><b>4: Economy</b><br />Nigeria's economy is growing but the wealth is not being spread around<br />Nigeria
 is Africa's biggest oil producer and its largest economy, but many fail
 to feel the benefits with nearly half the population living below the 
poverty line. Continued corruption is seen as partly being to blame.<br />National
 income is due to grow by more than 5% this year and next year, but 
people did not seem in the mood to thank Mr Jonathan for this.<br /><br /><b>5: Time for a change</b><br />APC
 supporters chanted "change" wherever they went and it seems to have 
caught the mood. The PDP has been in power since the end of military 
rule in 1999, and 2015 is the year that Nigerians decided that someone 
else should have a go at sorting things out.<br /><br />President-elect Buhari now has to prove he really can change things. </div>
